The Tel Aviv Workshop for Science, Technology and Security
This prestigious workshop series was launched four years ago in conjunction with the Security Studies Program with the intention of exploring the link among security policy, technology and science. Since its inception, over 25 workshops have been held, covering topics such as missiles and guided weapons, space, biology, computers and information, nuclear energy, government decision-making, economy, law, media, morals and ethics, and life sciences.
The workshop series is co-sponsored by leading Israeli agencies, including the Ministry of Defense, Israel Aircraft Industries, Rafael and Galei Zahal (Israel Army Radio). The day-long workshops are held in Tel Aviv University's Bar Shira Auditorium (which regularly reaches its capacity of over 550 persons), drawing audiences of military officials, current and former military industry representatives, private sector technology company representatives, academics, analysts and students.
Workshop speakers have comprised top-level IDF and intelligence agency officials, politicians, diplomats and leading academics such as Minister of Defense Sha’ul Mofaz; Shimon Peres; Amos Yaron, in his capacity as director-general of the Ministry of Defense; his successor Kobi Toran; IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz; Head of the National Security Council Giora Eiland; and former US Ambassador to Israel Dan Kurtzer.
